Garnet Valley Division B Invitational on January 27th, 2018

Please submit a roster for each registered team when you arrive at the competition. Each participating school must have verification that their teams are current members of the Science Olympiad program. Schools may have more than one team participate as long as each team is appropriately registered with the national office. Nonparticipating students may attend, however adult supervision is required (in addition to the person running an event).  All rules for Science Olympiad competitions apply.

Each school must provide an adult to run an event, and an adult to chaperone the assigned team room throughout the day. Many events will be run in science lab rooms, so lab tables, sinks, and desks will be available. Events that need a lot of space will be run in the gym. Please contact Carolyn Kunze if you have special needs for your event. We may need to ask a school bringing more than one team to run a second event, depending upon the number of schools participating. If you want to volunteer for a second event, you might want to do that early enough to get your choice of events. All event supervisors must send a digital copy of events (tests and keys) to Carolyn Kunze one week before the competition. These will be compiled on flashdrives and made available to all teams (with all graded materials) at the end of the competition.

Event sign-up for walk-in events will be done online from Monday, January 8th through Thursday, January 11.  You will receive the URL and sign in information by email.

On January 27th, teams should plan to arrive between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM. Orientation begins at 8:30 AM and events begin at 9 AM. Impound will be from 8:10 to 8:50 am. Events will run at 9, 10, 11, 12:10, 1:10 and 2:10, and the schedule will be made available in December.  Dave Drummer will supervising the Wright Stuff event.  He will be offering advice informally throughout the day and running a Wright Stuff Clinic from 3 to 4 pm. The closing ceremony will begin as soon after 4 pm as possible.  We will be giving individual medals for 1st through 5th place for each event, and ribbons 6th through 8th place. In addition there will be trophies for the 1st through 5th place teams.

There will be hot and cold food, snacks and drinks available in our cafeteria throughout the day. A menu will be posted on the web site.  We ask that no food or drink be brought into the auditorium.  You may also order pizzas and cases of water bottles in advance online, which will be delivered to your team room.  Please make sure all trash is placed in the provided containers and surfaces are wiped clean at the end of the day.

There will be bus, van and car parking available at the middle school.  We will provide recommendations for teams that plan to stay overnight. We have not worked out the details with area hotels yet.  If weather causes us to postpone the event until Sunday, you will be notified by Thursday night.  If we are forced to cancel both Saturday and Sunday due to weather, no refunds will be made, but teams will receive all tests and answer keys.
